The Velociraptor – A Great Starter Dino!

Beast of Bermuda’s Velociraptor (also known as Velo) is a great starter dinosaur. You can either take on medium-sized dinos (or if you want to risk it, a Tyrannosaurus Rex) solo or with a pack of Velos working together. This dinosaur is designed for group play since they are small, have less health than even just a little bit larger dinosaur, so teamwork is almost essential for surviving as a Velociraptor.

Velos small stature provides many advantages. You can squeeze into smaller areas, survive some high falls, you can climb trees (and even lay down in the branches!), and thereby this helps you to stay hidden. They also have an insane jump height, can control their jumps mid-air, and have a higher stamina pool than other dinosaurs (150 VS 100).

Velociraptor’s Skills

With their high jumping abilities, ability to pounce, and higher stamina pool than all other currently playable dinosaurs. The next highest dinosaur’s stamina is the Elasmosaurus (at 135), which is an aquatic dinosaur. All other dinosaurs currently playable in Beasts of Bermuda have 120 or less stamina, with an average of 90-100.

Velociraptors have a special ability called Baby Snatcher, which is also shared with the Elasmosaurus. You must be aware, though, that when this ability is active, it will slowly drain your ability power, and you’re unable to attack the grabbed victim.  This ability is also especially useful to apply if your nesting in babies, so you can carry the young ones to water and food if needed.

Weaknesses of Velociraptor

Pros can’t exist without Cons, right? The biggest weakness of Velociraptor is its exceptionally low health. It only has 100 HP, and you can’t change it. Unless you put some skill points into survival, which will help lessen the damage that you take from high distances. Larger creatures can one-hit velociraptors, so be aware of that. Though it is possible to survive a larger fall and a hit from a larger dinosaur, as we did from a high jump and an attack from a Megalosaurus, surviving with 3 HP remaining.

Velos also have extremely low weather resistance, so make sure you are putting a couple (at least) of talents into weather resistance. This will help out significantly when heavy rain and windstorms happen in-game. One way to weather these severe storms more easily is by hiding inside a tree branch or lay down in between multiple trees and/or large rocks with other velociraptors. This will help to keep your comfort stats up, and your shelter stat as well. Weathering the effects that larger predators can cause to happen, can be very helpful in saving your life.

Fun Things to Do With Velociraptor

Once the Oryctodomeus is released, you’ll be able to enter their burrows. When doing this, you may have an easier time getting food occasionally. Although the velociraptor is often considered ‘weak and skittish,’ at times, that is incorrect. With enough practice, and skills in both survival & combat, you can solo larger carnivores like Megalosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, or Acrocanthosaurus. Be careful though, you will need lots of practice to successfully pull this off! Practicing with a pack can help you learn how to hunt more easily!

Since Velos can jump & pounce exceptionally high, this is a skill that you can take advantage of. Use it to get away from larger predators, to climb trees, and to have a safe place to sleep. But there are more uses than that, discover them when playing! Also, due to your high stamina pool, if you put points into skills like Strong Legs you can run faster uphill. This can save your life if you’re being chased by a larger, slower predator, for example.

While the Velociraptor may look like a ‘noob dinosaur,’ it’s far from that. With enough practice, you can survive against much larger predators and even take down larger prey than yourself! If you’re new to the game, we recommend checking out the Velo, as well as some dinosaurs like a Parasaur. Once you get enough practice with how the game works, you can graduate to dinosaurs like Acrocanthosaurus or Apatosaurus. Due to your ability to jump, pounce onto other creatures and terrain, and climb trees, this is a great dinosaur to start with!
