Should schools allow students to use ChatGPT when writing essays and completing assignments?

Do you think this is cheating?

Why or why not?

I'm honestly glad that ChatGPT didn't exist when I was in high school back in 2009-2012. It makes things much, much easier.

I do use it for generating outlines and ideas for blog posts and such, but I do not use it to write the actual content, just the overall idea, and I write the actual content myself.

It does have its uses in many industries, as long as they don't over-use it to completely replace their work. I've seen some blog posts that were very clearly AI-written, since the grammar wasn't that great and it was a bit weird to read. That's why I prefer writing my own stuff, so its grammar is much more easily readable, and possibly translatable by online tools.

I am against allowing kids to use ChatGPT to do assignments and homework. The entire learning process will stop with the use fo AI tools.

That is understandable. AI is controversial for sure. It does have its uses, but it also has improper uses as well.

I HATED essays. So I'd allow it if a student had a hard time writing an essay or had a disability like mine to make school more friendly.

To be honest, a lot of people are actually using them and some teachers are mass downgrading grades because pretty much everyone's essays sound almost exactly the same LOL that is the problem with AI in school.

The question of whether schools should permit students to utilize ChatGPT for assignments is multifaceted. Some argue it enhances learning, aids accessibility, and imparts valuable skills, while others raise concerns about academic integrity, potential unfair advantages, and plagiarism risks. Striking a balance between leveraging AI for learning and maintaining the development of critical thinking and writing skills is crucial. Clear guidelines from educators are essential to ensure responsible and purposeful use, aligning AI's role with educational objectives. Ultimately, the appropriateness of ChatGPT usage hinges on the specific context and goals of each assignment and educational institution.
