[MHWorld News] Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark – Live Now!
GameNews posted an article in Monster Hunter
Hey hunters, How’s it going? February is here, which means we are officially in the launch month of Monster Hunter Wilds! On February 28, your journey into the Forbidden Lands begins. Now, to help ensure you have a satisfying, fun experience come launch, we’re pleased to share that the Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark we’d previously mentioned we were looking into, is real, it’s ready and it’s live from right now for you to try! With the Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark, we want to help our PC players feel more confident about how their PC will run Monster Hunter Wilds. In the next section, we’re going to explain what the Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark is, how it works, as well as some important information and differences you’ll see between this and the Open Beta Test 1 and 2 experiences, so please take a moment to check it out. Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark Breakdown! The Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark will allow you to see how the near-launch version of the game will run on your rig, via watching a demo play out. Please note, this occurs via a demonstration, so you won’t actually be playing the Benchmark yourself, nor have access to Character Creation. We were keen to create this for you, following the community feedback on performance and optimisation we saw from Open Beta Test 1. Now, here comes that important part we just mentioned: Open Beta Test 1 was a much older version of the game’s build, and not representative of the current state of the full game’s optimisation when the beta occurred, nor what it is currently like now. Open Beta Test 2 will also be running on that same, old build, but with a bit more content included, such as Arkveld and Gypceros, so please don’t expect any performance differences there, nor anything we covered in the Pre-Launch Community Update (which we’ll link at the end of this post). Those improvements and adjustments, including optimisation and weapon changes, will be in the game Day 1 at launch. This means that neither Open Beta Test 1 or 2 are representative of the experience you’ll have when the game launches, so please don’t base your optimisation / performance expectations on those. Instead, please download and give the Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark a spin and you’ll get a much more accurate and reliable insight into how your PC will run the game at launch. General Info You can download the Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark directly from Steam with the link below: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2246340/Monster_Hunter_Wilds/ Install Size: 29 GB Length: Around 6 minutes Benchmark Flow: Title Screen -> Performance check whilst displaying a demonstration -> Results screen. A score will be provided based on the performance of your PC (see below for gradings). Note: There’s no character creation available. The Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark isn’t just one setting though, we recommend using the Options menu to adjust game, graphics, audio and language settings to try out different combinations, or most accurately reflect your preferred settings come launch. There’s also a Loop setting that can be used to automatically rerun the benchmark. When it’s set to ON, the benchmark will automatically rerun after 1 minutes have passed on the results screen. Please be aware that the Option menu you see in the Benchmark is not exactly the same as the launch version, also, any settings you adjust here won’t be transferred into the main game. It’s worth noting that the benchmark may not be able to run properly if your computer does not meet Monster Hunter Wilds minimum requirements, which are available on the Store page! And one last, important point to share with you before we wrap up this post. The Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark does not guarantee the performance of your system for Monster Hunter Wilds, but does give you better insight and information, especially when compared to playing Open Betas 1 and 2. To Summarise The Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark is live! It’s free to use and you can download it HERE. A way to experience the state of optimisation for your PC in the production version of the game. It’s adjustable to give you information that reflects your preferred settings choices. The OBT 1 & 2 builds are old and do not reflect the current state of optimisation and performance. The OBT 2 build does not include any of the Pre-Launch Community Update improvements, they’re coming Day 1 at launch. That pretty much wraps things up, all that’s left is for those of you that want to try the benchmark ahead of launch, is to download it and give it a go! If you had unexpected performance issues in the Open Beta Test, or just want to make sure you’re PC is ready to rock, we highly recommend running the Benchmark and watching the demo play through to get your results! Quest Complete – We’ll See You Next Time! There we have it, the benchmark is real and it’s ready for you! As mentioned earlier, for those of you who haven’t yet seen the Pre-Launch Community Update news, where Monster Hunter Wilds director, Yuya Tokuda, took us through a range of improvements and adjustments coming to the game for launch, from performance to weapons, hitstop and more, you can watch it on our official YouTube channel below: If you’ve liked what you’ve seen today and/or you’ve got a smile on your face after using the benchmark, chucking down a pre-order will not only support us ahead of launch, but also snag you the following goodies: Hunter Layered Armor: Guild Knight Set Talisman: Hope CharmPre-order below: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2246340/Monster_Hunter_Wilds/ That wraps up today’s post! We’re all incredibly excited for launch and cannot wait for the PC community to experience Monster Hunter Wilds and the Forbidden Lands. Let us know in the comments how you’re getting on with the Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark! See you in the hunt. - The Monster Hunter Community TeamView the full article -

Filipe - Lead ProgrammerHope you all had a great holiday season with your loved ones. After spending time with family and friends it’s time to get back to work. The main ability of the allosaurus has received more attention this month. While the main code is the same as some existing mechanics, visually the allosaurus looks very different when performing the action, so some adjustments are specifically made to accommodate this. We are in the phase of getting all the animations playing as they should and then we can move into QA testing and balancing. The tyrannosaurus also required some additional work. There was some experimentation with mechanics to better balance its movement and hunting capabilities during its different life stages. Keep in mind these are additional mechanics focused on balancing; the pre-existing ones you already know about are unchanged. Migration and Patrol Zones now support custom shapes, whereas previously they could only be made with generic ones such as Box or Sphere. Now those areas can be customized to just about any shape. This is very useful since most biomes and areas of the map will never be accurate using sphere or box shapes. This will help in making the areas more accurate to the map landscape overall while interacting with the migrations, but also allows all plants to spawn more accurately, avoiding edge cases with plants and trees spawning in areas of no traffic or even unreachable locations. Lastly, the “Friend Spawn Code” is under testing with QA. I believe the system is close to fully functional, but we are also working on resolving a few possible exploits before it goes out. See you guys next time! Bryan - AnimatorI’ve been spending pretty much all of January going through the upcoming roster to make sure everyone has their bone meshes and rib meat. And then horribly mutilating them to do the gore morphs. It’s an Allosaurus so he’ll walk it off and be just fine. I’ve also started doing the Elder morphs, which have been a long time coming now so you can all reenact the closing scene of Saving Private Ryan together. Lastly, with animation well under way for Kentrosaurus among the animation team, I’ve started rigging up the Baryonyx. VisualTech48 - Environmental ArtistThis month I’ve been focused on making the final assets for the GUTS, and have been working on making smaller kits that fill out some coastal locations. The GUTS received further additions this month with additional entry types. It features a sally port, a small control center for operating the doors and the security system. In addition, some love was shown to our older parts of the kit and the new enclosure fence received some much needed 45 inward and outward fencing to make it feel more natural and assist in building. And finally to top it all off, I’ve been working on the holding pen for sauropods and strains. I’ll hold off on showing until I’m happy with it, but when it’s ready I’ll have it passed through Phase Three. It’s a hulking structure that feels like the interior area could be its own level. And it’s almost, if not, twice the size of the DTA. hypno - QA LeadIt’s good to be back! I took some time over the holiday to get into some playtesting on the official servers to identify many of the current major issues in the game. While this is far from a complete list, here’s a quick rundown of the issues I will be looking to have addressed over the next few patches: Plants causing input lockups sometimes when eating them. Plants disappearing but still being scentable. Persistent rain sounds, despite it being clear weather. General audio choppiness. Omniraptors being kicked when dismounting from a pounce. (Fixed as of the latest patch!) Grappled characters being able to break out from the pounce, even when pinned. Cannibal mutation not appearing despite conditions being met. Fish AI not spawning in certain rivers/lakes. Various replay issues. Timer not going down, replay not being visible, etc. DLSS screen tearing. Dilophosaurus hallucinations sometimes being invisible. Be sure to send in a bug report if you believe I’m missing anything substantial, but the above is what stood out to me the most. QA has hit the ground running upon returning from the holidays, focused primarily on all of the community bug reports that we amassed during the break; we had over 600 reports to sift through! So, thanks to those of you that took the extra time to submit a bug report, they’ve been a great help as always. As well as looking at the community reports, we’ve been busy running into our own issues, such as the beipiaosaurus becoming a little too enthusiastic when dolphin diving: We experienced some difficulty testing a corpse related bug recently due to a certain AI animal. It should be known that while the psittacosaurus is meant to carry small corpses of comparable size, we hadn’t intended it to take ceratosaurus’ corpse bully niche: Hopefully it doesn’t start chuffing! Then there’s whatever is happening with this poor soul: As Filipe mentioned, we’ve just been given access to the new Spawn Code system which is making great progress with each testing session. Being able to spawn in with your friends will be a huge benefit to players that want to group up, while still not disrupting the randomness of spawning that we want to retain. It’s a very simple system that works as follows: The player joins a server, selects their species, and navigates to their group menu upon spawning. On the group menu, the player will find a “Spawn Code” which lasts for 5 minutes. They can copy it and send it to their friends. A friend can navigate to the “Eggs and Spawn Codes” menu and input the code. Upon being accepted by the code owner, the friend will then be able to customize their own character’s skin, before spawning in near the player that sent the code. The following was taken from the latest QA build, which is still heavily WIP: KissenKitten - ProducerHope you all have had a decent start to the new year. While this month and last month were pretty short, the amount of stuff we’ve been up to is anything but minimal. I spent most of January getting back on the saddle checking in with each department to reassess their needs and having a bunch of meetings on what our first quarter will look like. Some topics of conversation range from rounding out Elder mechanics, spawn codes and more. We’ve been doing a fair bit of QoL changes and at last returning to work on some of our shelved features for some of the existing dinosaurs, varying in degree. The hypsi and its ability to move about the treetops is a good example. The herrera’s climbing being a bit more dynamic, troodon getting some assistance performing its role etc. I had a bit of time on my hands so I was able to scrounge up some clips. Everything is subject to change of course. The rex, trike, allo, austro and kentro are all looking pretty good and patiently awaiting their individual debuts. We’re pushing towards a hordetest fairly soon to get some much needed changes in your hands and if luck be on our side, maybe a bit more. The rex and trike need a handful of animations related to sparring before they will be fully ready for testing, the allosaurus needs some setting up and mechanic refinement while the austro and kentro await setup. If all that weren’t enough, the baryonyx is next. Animation work never ceases. We also have some minor features that we plan to implement to help the entire roster navigate precarious terrain with more ease as well as a new feature that should allow certain non jumping carnivores the ability to be proficient under more circumstances. That’s all for now. See you in the hordetest! View the full article

New Velociraptor+The Velociraptor has been given an entirely new model and set of animations Gliding+The Velociraptor can now enter a gliding state if the jump key is pressed while the velo is already in the air. While gliding, the crouch and jump keys offer control of the pitch angle. Note that holding jump only mildly improves pitch angle. +While gliding, holding the sprint key will further improve pitch angle while gliding +Releasing all movement keys while gliding will cause the glide to end, placing the player into freefall +While gliding, pitch angle gradually becomes more and more angled downward. The longer you glide, the harder it is to stay aloft. +Entering freefall and then re-entering a gliding state will refresh the pitch angle decay, allowing you to begin a fresh glide. Each time this is done, the stamina cost of doing so doubles. The baseline cost is 10 stamina, so it will cost 10, then 20, then 40, then 80, and so on to re-enter a glide. This is reset when the player touches the ground, enters a body of water, or enters the climbing state New Velociraptor Specialization: Changyuraptor+The Changyuraptor, a specialization of the Velociraptor, is a quad-winged gliding specialist with feathered pantaloons +The Changyuraptor and Velociraptor share skins, animations, and sounds. The Changyuraptor, however, has its own unique model +Changyuraptor and Velociraptor can group by default. If servers wish to keep them separate, it can be done by editing the appropriate settings in the server's config file +Changyuraptor is substantially better at gliding than Velociraptor. It is, however, a slower climber. +Changyuraptor has slightly less health, damage, and weight than Velociraptor +The Changyuraptor can use its pounce while gliding by holding down and releasing the right mouse button. It can do this to gain altitude while gliding +Added new talent to Changyu's talent tree in talent socket M3.1, Sugar Glider -Sugar Glider decreases how much more Stamina each successive re-entry to glide costs during one flight -Sugar Glider also decreases the baseline Stamina cost of entering glide +Added new talent to Changyu's talent tree at socket M3.3, Updraft -Updraft also increases the maximum pitch angle you can fly at while holding the jump key +Added Airborne Ambush as a new talent to both Velociraptor and Changyuraptor talent trees in socket P3.1 -This talent greatly increases damage dealt while pouncing or gliding. +Baseline, Velociraptor can now use an ability called Intuition. It allows dodging the direction of your current movement keys when quickly pressing and releasing the Secondary Attack key +Added new talent, Intuition, to Velociraptor's talent tree in socket S3.1 -This talent greatly reduces the cost of using Intuition -The baseline cost of dodging is 30 Ability and 30 Stamina, which reduces significantly with talent points invested -Note that if you flick the camera up or down quickly while using this ability, you can control the pitch angle you launch at when using dodge. +The Velociraptor and Changyuraptor have multiple tail and crest plumage options you can choose from. There are, in total, 4 tail options and 3 crest options. Choosing no crest or tail plumage is also an option. -Note that you won't have any crest or tail plumage by default. Crest and tail plumage can be added by going to the Character part of the skin customization UI +The Velociraptor now has a dance emote. It requires owning the BoB OST on Steam to use +Added Velociraptor taunt emote. It requires 100% in the Hunt Points Trial. +Added both Velociraptor idle variant animations to the emote action wheel +Added velo fat, skinny, incest, elder, and baby morphs New Skins+New Velo Skin: Redtail by Valhalla and Twilightwolf +New Velo skin: Snow Leopard Remake by Valhalla (originally by Misha) +New Velo Skin: Skua by Twilightwolf & Pixeldeer +New Velo Skin: Chimera by Valhalla +New Velo Skin: Nuclear by Pixeldeer & Natahi4 +New Velo Skin: Charged by Omnomnivore +New Velo Skin: Carved by Valhalla & Natahi4 +New Velo Skin: SunBather by Callie +New Velo Skin: Kakapo by Soals +Added Velos Elder Eyes +Added Velo Supporter Warpaint + Supporter Eyes Cosmetics Misc Velo Changes+Velociraptor can now enter the climbing state while gliding by pressing the Ability key +Velociraptor now enters the climbing state by using the Ability key Winter Event 2024+For a limited time, players will be able to earn the new Coahuilaceratops Hyperboreos skin. Previous Winter-themed cosmetics and skins can also be earned once more at this time. -The Hyperboreos skin was made by Valhalla and Gortys -The skins have a glowing, bioluminescent layer. -The skins unlock separate equippable cosmetic overlays. The Hyperboreos skin unlocks a snowy overlay and equippable icicles. The unlocked overlays and items can go on any skin of their corresponding species. Earning the Skins:+To unlock the Hyperboreos skin and its Overlay, players need to find and collect Coahuilaceratops-themed idols scattered around the map. +To unlock any previous Winter-themed cosmetic and associated overlays or other equippable items, players need to find and collect appropriately themed idols scattered around the map. The idols will match the dinosaur type the cosmetic corresponds to. This Winter, you can earn cosmetics for Mosasaurus, Parasaurolophus, and Coahuilaceratops. Gathering the idols will allow the player to progress through achievements associated with earning the skins. The idols will be spawning on all servers and on both Life Cycle and Free Roam game modes. Completing the achievement on any server will unlock access to the skin and cosmetics game-wide. Idol Collecting Tips! The idols will be found scattered across land and sea, spawning randomly anywhere carcasses spawn. The Coahuilaceratops Hyperboreos skin and any previous Winter-themed, earnable skin can now be earned by collecting idols scattered around the map and returning them to a matching deity shrine. All skins require gathering 50 idols that correspond with their dinosaur type. All idols must be gathered on the same server to complete the achievement and unlock the skin, but they can be individually gathered by different creatures or during different lives. Idols show up on the compass when nearby with a color themed for the deity shrine they belong to Turning in an idol will show achievement progress in the top-right corner of the screen You should also be able to view the progress you've made towards unlocking both the event skins by viewing the corresponding achievements in the achievements gallery's Limited Time Events page Mechanics Changes+Nest Raiders can now get food out of empty looking or incompletely filled carcasses dropped by juvenile dinosaurs that would otherwise be non-interactable or have very little food value. Full carcasses do not provide additional food to baby snatchers. -Carcasses cannot contain more total food than the creature that dropped it ate in total. This was added a while back to combat self-feeding behaviors and to make fresh spawns not an enticing kill for players to hunt, but it also adversely affected the Nest Raider talent. The above change allows only Nest Raiders to bypass this mechanic, getting access to the full carcass value of food regardless of whether or not the dropper of that carcass ate food or not before dying. Full 5/3 Nest Raider allows 100% access to all the remaining, unfilled food value that would otherwise be absent in a carcass. Lower point values of Nest Raider only allow partial access. Nest Raiders eating from a carcass will deplete the hidden Nest Raider food first. -Nest Raiders will see carcasses with more meat on them if they contain this hidden food that only they can interact with and eat. -Legging a carcass does not pull Nest Raider food off the carcass. It always stays with the original carcass. +Disabled Ability key climbing toggle from controls settings. The Ability key is now always used to enter the climbing state. QoL Changes+QoL: Improvements to how the moon direct light is handled. It should now be brighter and easier to see at dusk and dawn on all maps. +QoL: Public branch Velociraptors now get a specialization reset. Skins from public branch should select the best-matching new velo skin. Bio layers should result in the new skin getting bio when it converts. +QoL: Servers now spawn a world event immediately upon booting up. The first world event has no countdown timer and is immediately active. Additional world events will continue to spawn as normal. +Added Shape_Plane_Snow and SM_Cube_Snow to the foliage placement tool Music+Added looping Save Select and Dino Select music tracks to their respective UIs +Added new Near Combat music. This music plays when you are near members of your group that are engaged in a fight but are not in the fight yet yourself. Balance Changes+Balance: The talent Resilience now adds comfort for beached aquatics +Balance: The talent Arboreal now increases the rate at which you regenerate Ability, Stamina, Comfort, and Health. With full talent investment, these match their resting regeneration rates. +Balance: The talent Wing Tear now also applies its damage increasing effect to Velo and Changyu if they are gliding. Note that Velo and Changyu are injury immune, meaning no additional injury damage will be dealt. Changyuraptor+Changyuraptor's base bite damage is 25. Velo's is 33 +Changyuraptor's base health is 110. Velo's is 125 +Changyuraptor's size is 110. Velo's is 120 +Changyuraptor's gliding stats are substantially better than Velo's +Changyuraptor's sprint speed is 760. Velo's is 815 Elasmosaurus+Balance: Elasmosaurus now has Out of Element in its P3.3 talent socket Kronosaurus+Balance: Kronosaurus now has Out of Element in its P3.3 talent socket Megaraptor+Improved Megaraptor Slash Attack hitbox Mosasaurus+Balance: Mosasaurus now has Out of Element in its P3.3 talent socket Palaeophis+Balance: Palaeophis now has the same dietary requirements as Mosasaurus, and cannot eat fish food without risking getting sick +Balance: Palaeophis is no longer considered a piscivore. This means Chinlea give substantially less food and give negative comfort bias when eaten. +Balance: Regurgitating now costs 25 Ability Power baseline. The talent Ready to Run reduces this cost. +Balance: The Palaeophis can no longer use its primary attack while darting, resulting in it doing more damage than intended +Balance: Adjusted how venom damage is calculated such that the Palaeophis cannot deal more venom damage than it would with a 2:1 weight advantage vs its opponent. This prevents it dealing very high levels of venom damage to very small weight class creatures such as Velociraptor and Oryctodromeus. Saichania+Balance: Saichania now resists 50% of all venom damage Velociraptor+Balance: Velociraptor now has Tough Stomach in place of Adrenaline +Balance: Reduced Velociraptor pounce leap stamina cost to 25, down from 40 +Balance: Velociraptor no longer consumes stamina while coiling its pounce leap +Balance: Velociraptor can now continue to hold its pounce leap indefinitely until RMB is released. Pressing other movement keys will cancel the pounce leap. +Using pounce leap with insufficient stamina results in a shorter leap +Balance: Sturdy now activates when above 75% health, rather than 90% health +Balance: Increased Velociraptor climbing speed by 33% +Balance: Increased Changyu and Velo heal rates by 60% +Balance: Velo can no longer use its pounce while blinded by Sand Attack +Balance: Increased Velo's base damage to 33, up from 30 Bug Fixes+Fixed GPU-related clientside crash +Fixed: A rarer but similar instance of growth loss and reversion of save state to a previous version of a saved character being possible. +Fixed: Sacrificing at a shrine now properly marks the dead creature as having sacrificed to the shrine and awards proper Trials points. It also fixes a sacrificed creature not receiving a boost to their Trials in that deity category for the purposes of reincarnation. +Fixed: Tyrannosaurus rex's Devastating Ambush ability no longer prints Devastating Bite in the log when consuming stamina +Fixed: Creatures spawned by the creature select screen now properly despawn if you take an egg while the screen is in use +Fixed: Pressing the Talent button while in an egg no longer jams the camera +Fixed: Growth now properly un-pauses if you die with your growth paused +Fixed: Attacking eggs no longer grants enemy-ship with yourself +Fixed: Ichthy's animations now work properly in the main menu creature editor +Fixed: Game should no longer crash randomly or when sniffing other creatures when effects are set to higher or above +Fixed: Preview animations now work on the main menu's customization preview editor +Fixed: Typo in scent tooltip for sea anemones +Fixed: Velo can now climb properly while carrying another player +Fixed: Attacking eggs no longer makes the Near Combat music play for grouped players +Fixed: Motion blur should now be disabled regardless of graphics settings Thank you to the BoB Testing Team for the provided images.View the full article

Hey Survivors, it’s been a busy week behind the scenes as we continue refining Extinction Ascended and Bob’s Tall Tales: Wasteland War. As always, thanks for sharing your feedback and valuable bug reports with us, your patience and support are appreciated! Download in full resolution Survive, thrive, and morph in style on February 6th with the Power Rangers Wave 2! Let’s talk about breeding. We’ve been doing some internal investigation on ASA’s breeding system and we’re going to carry out some tests this weekend to gather some more specific data on our Official Network while no event is active. We’ll then do the same testing again the following weekend during an active breeding event (yay!). We’re hoping this data can be used to help us make some optimization improvements to the system, so that when the events are active, they’re less likely to have an impact on server performance. We know how important these events are to you for the quality of life they add to breeding; it’s something we’re working on, and we’re exploring different ways this can be achieved. Survivors, As the end of the year approaches, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on what makes this season truly special—not just the festivities, but the connections we share. For many, this time of year can be full of warmth and laughter, but it can also be a little lonely. That’s where gaming communities like ours shine brightest. Together, we’ve built a space where friendships thrive, adventures are shared, and no one has to face the world (or the wilds) alone. It’s been a roar-some journey and we’re so grateful to have you along for the ride. From the epic stories you’ve created to the incredible support you’ve shown us, you’ve been at the heart of everything we do. Whether you’re taming apex predators, building elaborate (or square) bases, or just enjoying the quiet beauty of a sunrise in-game, you’ve made this world, and our community, something truly special. So, here’s to you, Survivors. To the friendships formed, the laughs shared, and the memories yet to come. As we step toward a new year together, we’re excited for what’s ahead—new challenges, new adventures, and, of course, more ways to bring us all closer and have fun. Thank you for being part of our tribe. How ever you’re spending this season, know that you’re never alone here. Stay safe, stay wild, and stay connected. The Studio Wildcard TeamView the full article
