Hey hunters, How’s the hunting? As you’ve probably seen, there’s been some rather exciting Monster Hunter Wilds news and info coming out of Tokyo Game Show 2024 recently, including a new trailer, Flagship monster reveal, more live gameplay, Dev Team interviews and yes, a release date!! Monster Hunter Wilds is launching on Steam on 28th February, 2025! Featuring the option of crossplay too, you’ll be able to play and hunt alongside friends and family, even if they aren’t on the same platform as you. Pre-orders are live now too, and come with some rather fetching cosmetic layered armour, but we’ll talk about that more at the end of the post, as we’ve got even more news and details to share that was revealed outside of our initial release date trailer. Before we proceed, just a heads-up, there will be some monster reveals below! Even more Wilds Info! Monster Hunter Wilds: 4th Trailer | Release Date Reveal (Extended Kut) You saw the release date reveal trailer, but have you seen the “Extended Kut”? If you haven’t already, you’ll want to watch to the end for a surprise nestled away at the end: That’s right, your eyes do not deceive you! The big beaked bird wyvern, Yian Kut-Ku, returns with a vengeance in Monster Hunter Wilds! How and when will you encounter them? That'll be for you to find out! But that wasn’t the only surprise monster reveal we had… Can you smell that? Tokyo Game Show also saw the world first gameplay of the Scarlet Forest, as the team took us for a look at this lush locale, live! Whilst exploring the area and showcasing some hunting and endemic life interactions, the team came across Congalala! This pink-furred fanged beast has a penchant for flatulence, will be kicking up a stink as it returns in Monster Hunter Wilds! (Seriously, it’s dangerous from both ends.) Congalala are also rather partial to mushrooms, so hunters are advised to keep watch of what it’s munching down, as each different type of mushroom it eats will change its attacks! For example, consuming a Toadstool will give Congalala poison breath, whilst Nitroshrooms will give its breath an explosive bite! Whilst these are returning monsters, they didn’t make an appearance in World, Iceborne, Rise or Sunbreak, which means they may well be new for many of you, so prepare yourself for their unconventional moves! Seamless Locale Transition With Monster Hunter Wilds, one thing we’ve been keen to highlight is the seamless experience you’ll be able to have with the game, whether that’s from base camp into the locale, exploration or moving directly from one hunt into the next. We’d seen the community’s questions around how and if this seamless gameplay also included moving between the game’s locales, and live at Tokyo Game Show 2024 the team confirmed that yes, you can seamlessly move between the game’s locales on foot, or your Seikret, with no loading screens, by moving directly from the Windard Plains into the Scarlet Forest, where they quickly encountered a Lala Barina! Initially, you won’t be able to move between locales freely, however as you progress through the game’s story and new areas become available, this seamless travel will be yours to use as you please! 16-Players in a base camp! In Monster Hunter Wilds, 16 players are shown at base camps! Recently announced at TGS by Monster Hunter Wilds director Yuya Tokuda, up to 16 of the players in a lobby will be displayed at the same time in each of the various base camps. Meet friends, chat, form hunting groups and more! Seikret Customisation Another confirmation that came from our Scarlet Forest live gameplay stream at Tokyo Game Show was the reveal that yes, you’ll be able to customise your Seikret companion in Monster Hunter Wilds, with the team’s Seikret being shown to have a light cream and deep copper plumage! We haven’t revealed exactly how Seikret customisation works in-game yet, but rest assured, you’ll be travelling the Forbidden Lands in style! A Beginner's Guide to Monster Hunter Wilds Alongside our latest trailer, we also released our “Beginner’s Guide to Monster Hunter Wilds” video! If you’re new to Monster Hunter and looking to find out more about Monster Hunter Wilds, this video is for you! You’ll be joined by Alma, your Handler, as she takes you through an introductory tour of Monster Hunter Wilds, including the game's living breathing world, the rich story and characters, hunting mechanics, and of course, the monsters! Pre-order & Save Data Bonuses! That covers almost everything we want to share today, but of course, now that we have a release date of February 28th, 2025, pre-orders are now live on Steam! https://store.steampowered.com/app/2246340/Monster_Hunter_Wilds/ If you pre-order, you’ll be supporting the game ahead of launch and getting yourself some snazzy pre-order bonuses: Hunter Layered Armor: Guild Knight Set Talisman: Hope CharmWishlisting will support us too, and help keep you up to date with the latest Monster Hunter Wilds news! Plus, there’s some extra goodies that you, well your Palico mostly, can enjoy just for having Monster Hunter World and Iceborne save data! That’s two sets of in-game Palico equipment and two Nameplates to use in your Hunter Profile. If you have just Monster Hunter World save data, you’ll get the equipment on the left, but having Iceborne save data as well will give you both! New ContentCarcharodontosaurus Specialization+Added a new specialization to the Acrocanthosaurus class. The specialization is the Carcharodontosaurus +The Carcharodontosaurus uses the same skins as the Acrocanthosaurus and behaves similarly to how we implemented the Brontosaurus as a specialization of the Apatosaurus class -All other specialization-specific stuff that we did for bronto should work for carch +See the Balance Changes section of the patch notes for Carch's stats. Note that Acro's stats have changed as well to better-differentiate it from Carch and adjust its balance point a bit. +Added new mechanic to Carcharodontosaurus: Voracious Roar and Voracious Bite -The Carcharodontosaurus has Voracious Roar as an ability rather than Intimidating Roar. Voracious Roar is activated by pressing the Ability key and costs 35 Ability. When activated, yourself and all nearby group members (carch and acro only) receive a temporary buff called Voracious Roar. This buff lasts 20 seconds, then 10, then 5, and then cannot be used any longer for one minute. -While Voracious Roar is active, attacks dealt by any player with the buff against any ungrouped player will result in receiving the Voracious Bite buff. Voracious Bite is a stacking, heal-over-time buff that lasts for a duration of time. This buff resets its timer and increases its stack count each time the player deals another successful offensive attack. -Carcharodontosaurus, by default, receives 3 stacks of Voracious Bite each time it succeeds in making an attack while Voracious Roar is active. Acrocanthosaurus receives only 2 stacks. -Voracious Bite's healing is reduced by bleed and hits a 50% reduction when the player has 100 bleed. -Voracious Bite does not activate if the Carcharodontosaurus' attack struck a player who had Spiky Shield or Evasive Maneuver active -Carch's Voracious Roar status icon now shows up above the Carch's head while it is both active and on cooldown on non-owning clients -Note that support toggling whether or not specializations that share the same dino type can group has been added. By default, Carch an Acro will not be allowed to group with one-another on Officials due to balance concerns. This can be changed in a server's Game.ini config file if a server wishes for them to be able to group. More details are located in the Admin section of the notes. +Carcharodontosaurus has a talent tree identical to Acrocanthosaurus, with only one difference. +Replaced Improved Intimidating Roar with Voracious Roar on Carch -Increases how much healing you personally receive from your Voracious Bite healing -Increases how long the Voracious Bite Heal over Time effect lasts on your character. -Reduces the cost and increases the duration the Voracious Roar Buff that gets put on both you and all nearby party members -Increases how many stacks of Voracious Bite you can have going at once. Talent points increase it by two, and inherits increase it by one. +All saved Acrocanthosaurus have received a specialization reset +Added new Lurdu Skin: Siliquosa by Pixeldeer & Natahi4 +Added new Acro Skin: Rouge by Callie +Added new Apato Skin: Genetic Stripe, by Valhalla Fall Event Skins! +For a limited time, players will be able to earn the Megaraptor Servant of Charon skin and the Tyrannosaurus Fall Decay Skin. -The Charon skin was made by Valhalla and Croww -The skins have a glowing, bioluminescent layer. -The skins unlock separate equippable cosmetic overlays: Charon's Splendor for Megaraptor & Leafy Refuge for Tyrannosaurus. The unlocked overlays can go on any skin of their corresponding species. Earning the Skins: +To unlock the Servant of Charon and its Overlay, players need to find and collect Megaraptor-themed idols scattered around the map. +To unlock the Fall Decay skin and its Overlay, players need to find and collect Tyrannosaurus rex-themed idols scattered around the map. -Gathering the idols will allow the player to progress through achievements associated with earning the skins. -The idols will be spawning on all servers and on both Life Cycle and Free Roam game modes. -Completing the achievement on any server will unlock access to the skin and cosmetics game-wide. Idol Collecting Tips! The idols will always be found on land and spawn randomly anywhere carcasses spawn. Both the Megaraptor Servant of Charon skin and last year's Tyrannosaurus rex Fall Decay skin are now earned by collecting idols scattered around the map and returning them to a matching deity shrine. Both skins require gathering 50 idols each. All idols must be gathered on the same server to complete the achievement and unlock the skin, but they can be individually gathered by different creatures or during different lives. Idols show up on the compass when nearby with a color themed for the deity shrine they belong to Turning in an idol will show achievement progress in the top-right corner of the screen You should also be able to view the progress you've made towards unlocking both the event skins by viewing the corresponding achievements in the achievements gallery's Limited Time Events pageQoL Changes+Added a setting to only show friends' steam icons in player list and in group. If disabled, shows everyone's steam icons (unless profile is private, no profile picture etc.). This requires a restart to take effect. +The dawn, noon, night, deity shrine, and combat music all play on all maps now. Not just Isla Titania +QoL: Added tooltips to the Unstuck and Unjam buttons on the Escape menu so players can see the difference between the two +QoL: If you've fallen under the map, you can use the Unstuck button on the Escape menu to immediately be teleported to an appropriate spawn point. Additionally, when player is stuck under the ground the unjam and unstuck buttons are immediately available when opening the escape menu +QoL: Exiting the map's playable boundary now results in the player being moved to a random spawn point appropriate for their creature rather than in a death. Certain bugs were triggering this death condition and we'd rather handle possible out of bounds bugs with something less punitive for the player. +Minor improvements to dino shader +Brontosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus now show up as such in combat log events, on the character stat screen, and as the default name on saved entities Optimization+Improved various assets on Isla Titania to improve performance +Optimization: removed shadows from small meshes on all dinos Admin+Added console command ClearCommandHistory that clears the history of previously used commands Group Config+Admin: Servers can now configure whether or not any specific dino type allows cross-specialization groupings to occur. The default value is set to true. If configured to disallow cross-specialization groupings for a specific dino type, players with different specializations will no longer be able to group with one-another. -In order to configure this value, the CreatureLimits config value in the Game.ini file can be changed to this: CreatureLimits=(CreatureType=EDinoType::Acrocanthosaurus,PercentAllowed=100.0f,GroupLimit=4,SoftCapStart=0.7f,SoftCapEnd=1.0f,HardCapGrowth=0.8f,bAllowSpecializationGrouping=false) -By default, Acrocanthosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus cannot group with one-another due to this config value being set to false. If servers wish for them to be able to group, the bAllowSpecializationGrouping value either needs to be set to true or it needs to be removed from this line of the config file, as it defaults to true when not specified. +Admin (public): Added support for different group caps for different specialization types in the server's Game.ini config. The syntax is like this: CreatureLimits=(CreatureType=EDinoType::Acrocanthosaurus,PercentAllowed=100.0f,GroupLimit=4,SoftCapStart=0.7f,SoftCapEnd=1.0f,HardCapGrowth=0.8f,bAllowSpecializationGrouping=false,Specialization=0) CreatureLimits=(CreatureType=EDinoType::Acrocanthosaurus,PercentAllowed=100.0f,GroupLimit=3,SoftCapStart=0.7f,SoftCapEnd=1.0f,HardCapGrowth=0.8f,bAllowSpecializationGrouping=false,Specialization=1)Note: Acrocanthosaurus is specialization 0, Carcharodontosaurus is specialization 1, Brontosaurus is specialization 1, Apatosaurus is specialization 0, Terrestrial Palaeophis is specialization 1, Semi-Aquatic Palaeophis is specialization 0, and Aquatic Palaeophis is specialization 2 Server Manager+Fixed a variety of UI-related Server Manager issues +The Server Manager is now compatible with controller usage +The Server Manager should now reliably work to fetch information from the server and present it to a server admin who wishes to use it. Mechanics Changes+Mechanics: Bottom Walking now triggers from 50% further away from the seafloor +Mechanics: Hard-capped groups now have a growth threshold at which a player starts counting towards the cap. Previously, all players counted towards the cap regardless of growth. This allows hard-capped groups to have younger dinosaurs in their group without them counting towards the cap. By default, this value is 0.8 growth. If a player grows past 0.8 growth and that player caused the group to exceed its hard cap, they will be automatically removed from the group. -Note, this value is in the server's config settings, and can be changed on a per-species basis. The CreatureLimits array defines this value with this syntax: CreatureLimits=(CreatureType=EDinoType::Acrocanthosaurus,PercentAllowed=100.0f,GroupLimit=4,SoftCapStart=0.7f,SoftCapEnd=1.0f,HardCapGrowth=0.8f) -Players should receive a notification in chat when they are removed from a group for this reason +Mechanics: Sometimes going through portals, touching foliage that has collision, or being dropped from a grab would cause the player to die. Under these circumstances, the player is now safely logged out immediately and the player's saved character is not marked as dead. Trying to fix these has been challenging, so we're making the impact of these sorts of bugs not nearly as severe for the player as well. That is the reason for this change. +Experimental new change to Biomutations and other bioluminescent skins: -The alpha value of the bio's color picker now drives how much of the underlying skin's colors bleed into the bio. A alpha value of 0 causes it to use the underlying color completely, whereas a value of 1 uses the color of the biomutation's color picker. A value of 1 corresponds to current public branch bios, and this setting is totally optional. +Reduced good parent offspring sniff range and snake senses sniff range from 600m to 60m Great Nesting Site+The Great Nesting Site world event now disables the food and water drain increase associated with having the Survival Deity Blessing buff +Great Nesting Site and the Survival Deity Blessing now both close the gap between your current Good Parent level and 5/3 Good Parent by 50%. This effect does not stack, and having either buff will grant this effect. +Both Great Nesting Site and the Survival Deity Blessing add one additional Good Parent beyond this effect for the purposes of talent inherit generation. +Under all nesting circumstances, the odds of passing on inherits has been improved by 0.5 Good Parent. +The chances of getting inherits during reincarnation has been improved slightly to simulate the effects of having 0.5 Good Parent added to this mechanic as well. -Note that the above changes were made due to us findi ng a bug related to the Great Nesting Site world event. It was granting the effects of having 7.5 Good Parent for players that had 5/3 in the talent, resulting in players receiving better inherits in this world event than intended. Players can still get the same odds of passing inherits while under both the effects of Great Nesting Site and the Survival Deity Blessing. The improved odds, however, have just been spread around a bit more to make other avenues of nesting fairer in comparison. -Status condition tooltips have been updated to reflect these changes. It costs 20 Stamina. +Balance: Added a new mechanic to Coahuilaceratops. Each time it is hit from the front, it receives a stack of Active Defense. Active Defense, baseline, reduces damage by 7.5%. This can be improved by the talent Hardened Shield. Active Defense can stack up to 5 times, and behaves much like Frenzy. It lasts 20 seconds, and the timer for its expiration resets each time the Coahuilaceratops takes damage from the front. The stacking is multiplicative, meaning 5 stacks grants 0.925^5 damage reduction, not 1 - 0.075*5. This mechanic only activates if the Coah is either stationary or crouched. +Balance: Added Hardened Shield as new talent to the S3.1 socket in Coah's talent tree. It was never our intention to allow this mechanic to exceed what players could normally obtain through other gameplay means such as reincarnation or regular nesting. We've decided to fix this bug, making it such that 5/3 Good Parent presents the best possible odds you can get to pass inherits onto your hatchlings. +Fixed: Archelon can now earn its elder eyes GPU CrashesPossible fix for various GPU related crashes: +Maybe Fixed: D3D12 async crash should no longer happen +Maybe Fixed: D3D11 and D3D12 command queue crash should no longer happen +Maybe Fixed: RHI command parallel crash should no longer happen +Maybe Fixed: D3D12RHI Sync Threshold Reached crash should no longer happen +Maybe Fixed: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED and DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG should happen less Volcano Bay+Fixed: Volcano Bay should no longer spam tile limit reached in the log +Fixed: AI should work properly in Volcano Bay Thank you to the Beasts of Bermuda QA Team for providing the above featured screenshots.View the full article

Greetings, Adventurers! Embark on a new starting experience during the Season of Opportunity, our first season in New World: Aeternum. From repeatable Soul Trials to a free-for-all PvP zone, upleveled endgame rewards, and a 10-player raid, all of our major updates have been driven by player feedback. Here’s a brief overview for you to learn more about the key additions. Check out our full breakdown of the release notes for additional information on all things Season of Opportunity. Global Server Launch Info New World: Aeternum downtime will begin for all worlds at 8:30PM PT (3:30AM UTC) on October 14. Each region will open at the following time and require a full game download: All European and AP Southeast worlds across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC will open at 12AM PT (7AM UTC) on October 15. Pre-order and deluxe edition bonuses will not be available until approximately 4AM PT (11AM UTC) on October 15. All other worlds (US West, US East, and SA East) across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC will open at 6AM PT (1PM UTC) on October 15. PC players will be able to download the New World: Aeternum game update during the downtime on October 14. If you currently own New World, you will be able to download the New World: Aeternum game update during the downtime on October 14. Here is what to expect: The New World: Aeternum update will show up in your game’s library page. You will need to click the blue Install button to begin the update. If you have Automatic Updates enabled on your Steam account, no action is required and the update will be automatic.Target Lock Changes Thanks again to everyone that took the time to not only participate in Open Beta, but also leave extremely detailed, constructive feedback. We have made the following changes to target lock. Note that these changes only affect PvP—PvE still behaves as it did before. Killing a PvP opponent in target lock will no longer automatically switch to another target. This led to situations where an ability in progress would instantly target another player when the current target was killed. This maneuver wouldn’t be possible with manual aiming on keyboard and mouse so we removed it.Target lock now breaks more aggressively when losing line of sight to your target. Breaking line of sight even briefly will lose the lock, which allows easier evasion and better preserves stealthy gameplay in PvP.A character’s turn speed is now slower when using target lock. We’ve slowed the character’s turn speed when using target lock. This results in a slower tracking speed for targets, meaning that homing attacks will miss more often on a moving target.Temporary - Blunderbuss now deals less damage in PvP We agree with the player feedback that the guaranteed hit just doesn’t feel right. To mitigate this, we temporarily reduced the Blunderbuss's base damage in PvP to compensate for the guaranteed hit. We will continue to investigate long term solutions to be implemented in the near future.Cross-world Arenas & Improved Matchmaking Finding matches in 3v3 Arenas will now be much easier thanks to cross-world matchmaking. We’ve also introduced skill-based matchmaking to both Arenas and Outpost Rush. Look forward to higher quality matches against other players of similar skill. Finally, we’ve added role selection to these modes. Similar to Expeditions, we will now split roles better between teams for a more balanced experience. New PvP Zone: The Cursed Mists The foggy southwest reaches of Cutlass Keys are a lawless place, where the “Golden Greed” curse of La Esperanza’s treasure drives fortune-hunters to murderous madness. Even the closest of companions are liable to lethally betray one another. Gather Cursed Doubloons and resources, but you’ll have to escape before other looters steal your spoils. Get a better idea of what to expect from our developer deep dive. New 10-Player Raid: The Hive of the Gorgons One of the most exciting new features coming is our first-ever 10-player raid, the Hive of Gorgons. After defeating Medusa in New Olympus, players will learn of a new threat. The Gorgons have risen, and they’re raising an army of the Hercyne. To stop them, you’ll have to assemble a team of powerful players, enter the hive, and navigate a gauntlet of challenging puzzles and epic boss battles. Learn more in our developer deep dive. New Artifacts Turn your enemy’s Empower against them, improve your survivability, and more. These 8 new Artifacts, each featuring its own quest line for upgrades, will redefine your playstyle. Astraeos - Map Astraeos - Structures Astraeos - Wardrobe Astraeos - Trireme Ships As a reminder, we will start of sunsetting some of our inactive official servers after a careful assessment. Our goal is to ensure that we're always delivering the best experience possible, and official servers exist as a way for the community to play together without having to host their own. When we launch fresh content, typically, we put up more servers than we need in the long term to match the peak in user capacity; over time, these servers become ghost towns as players have dropped off and are waiting for the next major content release. On October 15th, we'll be sunsetting these inactive Island servers: [expand type=showmore, expanded=false] AsiaAsia-PVP-Consoles-TheIsland1030 Asia-PVP-Consoles-TheIsland1031 periods. We’re working with our partner at Nitrado to offer these saves after the scheduled sunset through Nitrado’s interface. Please stay tuned for more details. On April 8th, we deployed a new type of server across the network (for the various game types) that we refer to as "Expire" (which is what you can search for in the session filter). These servers will be online until 10 am PST / 1 pm EST on November 15th. We're preemptively using our allocation for Extinction to host some additional sessions that players can travel onto to farm, tame, and experience Aberration Gameplay. The same transfer restrictions apply in that you are only able to download your character, but you can freely take anything off. This is to help reduce load off some of the other servers, or provide players an option for those who just want to jump onto Aberration temporarily. Please note that these servers will no longer exist after 10 am PST / 1 pm EST on November 15th, so if you intend to use them, remember to transfer your items/creatures/characters off before that date, as nothing will be saved beyond that time period. Greetings, Adventurers! The foggy southwest reaches of Cutlass Keys are a lawless place, where the “Golden Greed” curse of La Esperanza’s treasure drives fortune-hunters to murderous madness. Even the closest of companions are liable to lethally betray one another. Gather Cursed Doubloons and resources, but you’ll have to escape before other looters steal your spoils. Get an inside look into the Cursed Mists before it releases on October 15 alongside New World: Aeternum. Massive Murder Balls of Allied PlayersAny new feature this complicated is going to require a lot of playtesting. During all of that testing, we discovering unexpected, but entertaining, issues. Early on, it was possible for PvE players to ranged attack or heal lawless, free-for-all PvP players from outside the zone border. You can imagine the shenanigans that followed. We were delighted to find that many of the riskier features worked as well or better than imagined, often with hilarious results. Trying to collude with other players isn’t a bad strategy, but it’s horrifyingly easy to accidentally, or “accidentally,” catch friends in AoEs when the fighting gets hectic. I fondly recall lots of laughing, yelling, and sometimes sincere apologies. It’s also a bittersweet treat to see the person who just murdered you pop up at a respawn point seconds after you, having perished to something like your Bleed or Smolder. “Well, we BOTH lost that one, didn’t we?” I actually partnered up with someone that way. We rushed back across the border to see if our dropped loot was still on the ground. It wasn’t. Someone luckier, or smarter, than us had come across it, but hey, it’s the friends we made along the way, right…? We want to discourage massive murder balls of allied players. There’s always going to be collusion, but we don’t want to make it easy. We implemented a new free-for-all system that eliminates all group, Company, and Faction ties. Even if you’re fighting alongside friends, it’s very easy to accidentally harm or kill one another. We also implemented a new crowd control system that keeps players from lingering in large packs for too long. Lastly, loot chests function like normal resources. Once looted, they’re unavailable to all other players until the respawn. The Unique Thrill of PvPWe believe in the strength of our PvP combat, not to mention the unique thrill of PvP, and always look for more ways to engage both PvP and PvE players with enticing rewards. This time, we wanted to deliver more free-form, always-available PvP experiences, rather than relying on instances, scheduled events, and matchmaking queues. That desire to bring new forms of gameplay to Aeternum culminated in a voluntary free-for-all, open-world space. There are light extraction mechanics, extra room for those who prefer to sneak around, and a surplus of loot for every Adventurer. Our hope is the easy access and bountiful spoils tempt even the staunchest of PvE players to take a dip in the pool. It’s full of treasure, after all. It’s really its own animal as a high-stakes, on-the-fly experience without strictly structured times or reward caps. Cutlass Keys’ Cursed Mists zone is one of three ways to acquire new 700+ gear, and potentially the best option for solo players. There are also some fantastic Named Items and Artifacts that reward the greater risk. Cursed Treasure Economy Building a new currency with fresh ways to acquire resources, determining how many you’ll lose with each death, and designing new rewards to spend them on, is always a challenge. It is crucial to the ultimate success of the experience. No matter how fun content is from a gameplay standpoint, most players need compelling incentives too. Despite simultaneously updating, improving, and adding to New World for the release of New World: Aeternum, the team’s done a great job building a gorgeous, unique set of spaces, assembling new free-for-all crowd and population control systems, and building Cutlass Keys' new cursed treasure PvP/PvE economy. A Revamped Cutlass KeysThere were a few zones in the game we thought could benefit from updates, as well as serve as proving grounds for new types of gameplay: Cutlass Keys, Mourningdale, Restless Shores, and arguably even Reekwater. Cutlass Keys’ pirate theme tied in wonderfully with our new game mechanics, specifically valuable, greed-cursed treasure that must be carried away from the zone and cleansed before the curse drives even the fastest friends to paranoia and, possibly, murder. This gave us the opportunity to add new varieties of Lost pirates, inspired by the infamous Ottoman corsairs of the Barbary Coast. We also crafted new, gorgeous points of interest for exploration, combat, and loot. Beyond the PvP zone, these gold-cursed Lost took over the formerly Ancient and Corrupted parts of Cutlass Keys, providing a variety of new PvE quests. We knew we had to significantly expand the size of zone in order to allow hundreds of players to fight without server boundary issues. Our solution was to implement a new population cap system that limits the zone’s player count to something fun for both player experience and performance. The Future of the Cursed MistsThis free-for-all PvP zone a bit of an experiment, so based on how players engage with the experience, we’ll see how it evolves going forward. Right now, players can look forward to new rewards after release. We’ll also keep an eye on the Cursed Mists to tune for what players adore most. We hope everyone has as much fun playing in the Cursed Mists on October 15 as we did building and playtesting it. Check out our other major updates coming in the Season of Opportunity alongside New World: Aeternum. Thanks for your support and we’ll see you in Aeternum!View the full article

Players no longer need the beta drivers. Hey Survivors, we’ve got an update on the official server sunset process. After listening to your feedback and incorporating additional metrics, we expanded our analysis and took a closer look at server activity. As a result of this review, we’ve decided to keep several of the previously mentioned servers online. The following servers will remain available: [expand type=showmore, expanded=false] EU-PVP-TheIsland2048 EU-PVP-TheIsland2050 EU-PVP-TheIsland2062 EU-PVP-TheIsland2069 Asia-PVP-TheIsland2106 NA-PVP-TheIsland2231 EU-PVP-TheIsland2350 NA-PVP-SmallTribes-TheIsland9018 EU-PVP-SmallTribes-TheIsland9056 NA-PVP-SmallTribes-TheIsland9080 EU-PVP-SmallTribes-TheIsland9117 Asia-PVP-SmallTribes-TheIsland9141 NA-PVP-SmallTribes-TheIsland9145 OC-PVP-SmallTribes-TheIsland9202 NA-PVP-SmallTribes-TheIsland9272 NA-PVP-Consoles-TheIsland1000 EU-PVP-Consoles-TheIsland1067 EU-PVP-ConsolesSmallTribes-TheIsland8012 EU-PVP-ConsolesSmallTribes-TheIsland8079 [/expand] As a reminder, last week we announced the start of sunsetting some of our inactive official servers after a careful assessment. On October 15th, we'll be sunsetting these inactive Island servers: [expand type=showmore, expanded=false] AsiaAsia-PVP-Consoles-TheIsland1030 Asia-PVP-Consoles-TheIsland1031 Greetings, Adventurers! Amazon Games and New World are taking part in the 2024 Playing for the Planet Green Game Jam. The Green Game Jam is an annual project organized by Playing for the Planet where gaming studios are challenged to implement 'green activations' into their games. This year’s event is about making small changes to the way we eat to drive demand for more sustainable food sources. As part of our Feast for the Future Recipe Design Contest, we partnered with players to design a sustainable in-game cooking dish. While resources in Aeternum may respawn infinitely, we must consider the environmental impact of our choices in the real world. Aeternum is self sustaining. No matter how much Banana Pudding and other delicacies are devoured, food sustainability is never a concern for the inhabitants of the Eternal Isle. Whether you forage into the bioluminescent jungle of the Elysian Wilds or scavenge through the ancient ruins of Brimstone Sands, there is abundance and no waste — a paradise for food sustainability. In the real world, what we eat and where it comes from impacts our world in significant ways. From land use to transportation, processing, and packaging, greenhouse gas emissions are an unfortunate consequence of each step. Some sources of food have more significant impacts than others, especially for your own well-being. How does New World compare to the real world? How much of the food types did players craft? What were the top recipes prepared? Check out our Feast for the Future infographic to see how Aeternum compares to our world. Key Takeaways Meat and Dairy recipes comprise the majority of crafted consumables in Aeternum with over 800 million (67%) crafted. Total Vegetarian and Vegan dishes crafted surpassed 400 million (33%). If Aeternum was real and not eternally self-sustaining, the impact on food sustainability would be significant. Meat and Dairy consumption have the most significant impact on greenhouse emissions from land, feed, processing, and waste while non-meat food have reduced impacts across these categories. With a global average consumption of meat and dairy around 30%, any further increase in greenhouse gasses would mean significant deforestation, water scarcity, biodiversity due to natural habitat loss, and the pollution of air, soil, and waterways. Not even the all-powerful Azoth Tree would survive. To learn more about our food and specific sources of what we eat, visit “Our World In Data” for an interactive look at the impacts across the supply chain. Our World in Data: Infographic on greenhouse gas emissions in the food supply chain Our World in Data: FAQs on the environmental impacts of foodThanks for your participation in Feast for the Future! We’ll see you in Aeternum.View the full article

Filipe - Lead ProgrammerThis month I was busy reworking the math behind food, which also changed all diet code including the combinations. Now slots no longer need to be activated anymore, the bonuses are scaled with the amount of nutrients until a defined maximum. No more getting full before you receive any benefits from eating what is on your diet! This change also made all balance changes easier for all animals, but also for calculating food in migration/patrol zones. This also allows us to give server owners some control over the food balance in game who may want a more customized experience. Besides that and the new slot combinations, new mechanics are coming soon such as Gastroliths. These are small rocks that will manually drain food contents from the stomach. This does not affect nutrients or anything other than the stomach value. Lastly, I also worked on balance changes for mutations, a few have been changed completely, others merely received buffs or debuffs and a lot of bug fixes and improvements. Ariel - ProgrammerIn the beginning of the month I worked on the update we recently released, which was mostly just bug fixes, including a funny one where herrerasaurus was able to latch onto the air and just climb up infinitely into the sky. As much as I would like to buff that dinosaur, unfortunately that one was taking it too far. Other than that I was working on various maiasaura features as it moves closer towards completion. It has different attacks depending on its stance so it’s a bit of work to finish all of them but they’re unique enough to feel worth it and the movement system is functioning well after some bug fixes which I’m really happy about. Wedge - Sound DesignerI’ve been working on Maiasaura’s calls to get some space and perspective from the Tyrannosaurus. I am maintaining the trilling and warbling from the original vocal signature but bringing them up to the standard expected with Evrima. This is being achieved by using similar sources for the warbles; a mixture of female human screams, pitched down fairly low which creates the oscillation in the sound and combining with the growls, snarls and trills extracted from whale vocalizations. I’m introducing sounds such as pitched down bird calls as well as sounds from animals like tapir etc. to create a bedding to underpin the warbling that gives the sound more body as well as a more musical quality. The other breath and throat layers consist of gurgles and growls from camels to keep it consistent within the hadrosaur family (as that has been used as the base for the Tenontosaurus sounds as well), along with pelican and flamingo calls which when pitched down heavily give a thick growly animalistic texture that compliments the movement of the warbling. Looking forward to sharing more soon. Thanks! Bryan - AnimatorIt’s been a long month with a variety of Dinosaurs. First up was some T. rex subadult animation, getting the animations needed for testing some of it’s mechanics ready before we expand into the rest of the Rex growth stages. I’ve said it before, but Rex is a very different beast compared to legacy and each growth stage is practically a different animal, both in terms of how it plays but also in the amount of work that is going into it. Maiasaurua requires two sets of locomotion animations and is complete. Players will be able to swap between bipedal and quadrupedal locomotion, each with their own benefit to how the animal moves. And the Austroraptor locomotion has also been finalized. The amount of feathers on this guy made it a bit of a bear to work with but its locomotion is almost complete. Austroraptor has a pretty complicated rig, which leads me into my final project for the month: Kentrosaurus. Due to the increasing number of features required in our animation rigs for the month, I decided to use Kentrosaurus as an experimental rig which will hopefully be more ergonomic and robust when the animation team is working with it. The rig is nearly done and shows a lot of promise. I’ve also taken the extra time to build a custom rigging toolset which should make rigging any future animals much easier and faster. With Kentrosaurus, what usually took over a week to do only took a day to complete. Work smarter, not harder. KissenKitten - ProducerWe’re up to a lot currently. We’ve got some changes to diets, changes to migrations, the addition of patrols, elders being integrated, changes to current playables and production still churning on new creatures. There’s never a dull moment. Work done to migrations, diets and patrols should give you guys more flexibility for how you want to grow your animal and the choices you make during their lifecycle. Moving animals around in more ways so you can potentially have an interesting experience no matter where you happen to be on the island. We’ve also got some changes in the works for nesting and friend invites. This is aimed towards allowing you easier ways to play with your friends without sacrificing the integrity of the island’s ecosystem or creating abusive gameplay systems. We want to further incentivize nesting on the island in ways beneficial to both parent and offspring and in doing so, help make play with your friends more streamlined and accessible. Patrols are going to slowly but surely start being expanded to include more ingrained experiences that are varied and make sense for the island and for your groups. No details to share just yet as we want to work out the systems mindfully before unveiling them. But the goal is to give you more experiences that will help the island feel more alive and dynamic. Which is a key component across the board. Which is to make the island itself feel like a living breathing ecosystem. Full of all manner of flora and fauna that you can interact with and in some circumstances, interact with you. Sticking to that design goal helps ensure that no matter where you are or what time of day it is, a realistic experience can be had. Which will be made all the more apparent when humans enter the game permanently. As each and every excursion beyond the relative safety of a secured facility is truly and genuinely a walk out into the unknown wilds where the creatures of The Isle live out their lives with or without the existence or knowledge of the humans on the island. Elders are also getting some legitimate work on them which is very exciting as the system will round out the gameplay loop for our animals which has been a long time coming. All creatures will age on the island but the elder is where strength meets experience. For those that have maintained a quality existence throughout their lives, the reward will come in the form of an elder: a peak representation of the species. This is a stronger and more capable age state than a healthy adult. For those creatures ineligible or incapable of reaching elder status, a slow decline into a frail elder stage is all that awaits but the choice is yours. I’m looking forward to doing more rex testing this week to get its features where they need to be so it's safe to knock out its feature mechanic animations for its lifestages. We have to get the mechanic working the way we want first before completing the lifestage animations for those features. That way, we don’t have to redo work should the features need to be adjusted for some reason. Thankfully, with a click of a button and an export, those lifestage animations are done. Praise be! The tyrannosaurus is definitely shaping up to be one of, if not the most production intensive creature we’ve ever made, primarily due to how much it changes over the course of its life. As we’ve been vocal about before and I feel bears repeating now, we are committed to the tyrannosaurs feeling appropriately like a tyrannosaurus: starting off life extremely vulnerable, slowly scaling into one of the most powerful predators to have ever existed. A healthy adult tyrannosaurus in The Isle is going to be a force to be reckoned with and grow into true apex predator. The maiasaura has also been rounding the corner towards completion. Getting its sounds created and integrated currently. It should also be ready this week for some testing as well to ensure it's on the right track. Which ultimately shouldn’t be too challenging considering its mechanics are fairly simplistic. I’m excited for its inclusion to the roster cause no manner of dinosaur media is complete without a hadrosaur in my opinion. Its playstyle should remain similar to what it was in legacy for those that remember that. It should be strong enough to defend itself from smaller predators but should definitely consider fleeing as an option from larger more dangerous threats. Which is primarily the winning survival strategy for most creatures. Its ability to change stances should hopefully provide more flexibility for its survival. It will be interesting to see how they are utilized in your hands. At the end of this devblog I’ll include some skins that have been in the works the past few months that were posted on the community discord and some other pieces of development content. Treat each other with respect. See you next time. Director’s CommentaryHello Islanders, When Migration Zones were originally tested, they were left active and always on to ensure that the mechanic was working. This led players from one migration to the next with there being no applicable downtime in-between, resulting in a “Keep moving or starve” gameplay experience unless you could supplement your diet with grazing along the way. To be clear, this was not the intended purpose of the Migration Zones initially. We left these active and constantly cycling to ensure it worked properly and consistently. Migration Zones have been toned down and do not automatically adjust player diets to everything in the location they are summoned, but strongly increase nutrient yields from preferred foods. These also take time to activate, ensuring that a migration is a less frequent occurrence but guarantees a larger overlap of players. Patrol Zones are limited to an individual or the group that they lead (group members always have the patrol zone of a group leader), which are smaller pockets of exploration areas across the island that can yield food and benefits should a player go there. For carnivores, patrol zones that have or had recent player activity in them that are also part of your diet will activate after a short delay. It won’t guarantee that you go to a zone and just see players running around, but it will give you a staging point for a hunt. One of the biggest tests on the immediate horizon is going to be disabling Migrations and Patrol Zones entirely. Though these features are important to the survival aspect of the game, do not forget that sandbox is king. These features may not be relevant to other experiences, official or otherwise, within The Isle. Nesting gameplay is getting the attention it sorely needs. Various nesting areas are being drummed up around the island, some of which are a common design where any animal can reach and nest, but a few bespoke locations may be harder to reach or inaccessible to some animals. These locations will have unique patrol zones designed to help parents raise their young and remain nearby without forcing the parents to struggle too hard for resources. (Final Note: There’s also some testing going on to allow eligible but unbonded animals to use their courtship calls at a longer range, not unlike a mating call, to find other players who want to create a nest and I’m hoping it works out as a finalized addition). UI update? UI update. “Minimalist AE console interface” is the direction I started in and Seiza has been hard at work with me going over the various screens in the game as we move towards a unified look and feel. I’m happy to say it mimics the style of what is seen in our YouTube videos and I feel that we’re close to the end of any edits and updates to screen navigation. Once this is complete, we will begin filling in the intentional empty spaces with various lore information. Ultimately, it’s a lot less cluttered and more direct on player input. (I know what you’re thinking. Where are the screenshots? Expect new UI media to randomly start finding its way into the Discord and Phase Three in October.) Just a quick update on the random spawning for official servers: Randomizing the spawn region for players has helped considerably with displacing problematic player hotspots on the map but brought the obvious problem that it made it infinitely harder to find and play with friends. Spawn Codes are being worked on to allow players to join one another as they start the life of their animal. No further information at this time until it goes through testing to fix abuse cases, but I’m confident that this will resolve being able to find and play with friends when starting a new life. Mutations and their changes have been seen in some older streams. Of course there have been adjustments due to problematic behaviors but some mutations have received more bespoke adjustments to make these choices matter to a player more with more obvious consequences or changes in default gameplay. Something like “Cannibalistic” will require more consideration, as selecting that mutation may alter your coloration to show everyone just exactly what type of player you are. Other mutations that alter percentage values of your animal will be drastically reduced in effectiveness, making way for the Elder system that will allow those mutations to stack in effectiveness (up to point) if you complete a full lifecycle as the animal. Lastly, this year we will host a limited time seasonal event on the HordeTesting servers. This was a pitch done over an extremely small amount of time that wasn’t meant to interrupt general development, so it is in no way visually perfect but it’s been very fun in closed testing and I hope that you all will enjoy it when the time comes. Just remember, there is no cure. Godspeed and see you on The Isle. - Don View the full article

Greetings, Adventurers! One of the most exciting new features coming is our first-ever 10-player raid, the Hive of Gorgons. Get an inside look into the Hive of Gorgons before it releases on October 15 alongside New World: Aeternum. The Pinnacle of Endgame PvE ContentWhen it comes to endgame PvE content in New World: Aeternum, this raid is the pinnacle. It’s definitely a step above Mutators and even though it’s similar to the Sandwurm Trial, there are more complex mechanics. Our main goal is to layer together a lot of familiar mechanics, while raising the bar for both difficulty and rewards. We wanted to make sure the effort is worth the time so we’ve included some of the strongest possible gear and increased the maximum Gear Score to 725. We even added 3 powerful, new Perks (1 for weapons, 1 for armor, and 1 for accessories) exclusive to the Hive of Gorgons raid. We didn’t want to leave crafting totally out of the loop. The Hive of Gorgons raid drops a special new crafting material that players can use to craft 725 Gear Score equipment. There’s some prep work though, so its vast magical power doesn’t overwhelm the materials, plus one more very rare type of crafting item that will remain a secret for now. Epic Encounters We expanded our 10-player content to a longer-form raid to bring players something special. When developing content this large, there has to be a solid foundation, so we documented extensively before jumping into production. Our philosophy was actually to keep things simple rather than overcomplicate it. We think about a few things when designing raid bosses: Responsibilities for players beyond just hitting the boss to help each other and feel like a team. Wholly new mechanics that challenge players in ways they haven’t experienced before. Moments of real spectacle where we want players to appreciate these unique, epic encounters. Echidna is our biggest boss to date, with more verticality than any other encounter. She’ll stomp and thrash around while reshaping the arena, which can both be an opportunity and a hazard. The second boss, Typhon, is the ferocious guardian of a massive elevated bridge. He’ll unleash thorny traps for intruders and ravenously devour all who attempt to cross. The raid’s climax against the Broodmother shows Medusa in her final form — grotesquely mutated, commanding the spread of toxic spores, and hatching a horde of Hercyne spawn. From Blockout to Roman BathElysian Wilds left us with a certain curiosity about Medusa and her plot to bring the Hercyne to power. That desire to expand on her story helped inspire the Hive of Gorgons. We were fortunate to identify the types of areas we wanted to create early in this development cycle: a Desert Canyon, Roman Baths, and an Ancient Tomb. For each, we got some wonderful concept art, which really helped us create a blockout that was very close to the shipped product. It is easy to get lost in complexity when blocking, or using simple shapes to design a rough draft of the level, in a level this large. Raid ‘Chapters’To keep the pacing crisp and gameplay varied, we decided there would be three ‘chapters’ to the raid. Every chapter would have a section of enemies, a puzzle or action sequence, and a boss. Following this formula, we were able to focus on each action sequence or puzzle without it bleeding into something else. The action sequences presented their own challenges and went through multiple iterations of playtesting and development. The main differences between our original design document and the final version were more iterative than sweeping changes. One feature we added was teleporting players who join late to the most recent boss. Immediately making progress is far more fun than running through cleared sections. A big thanks to our internal playtest experts. The group was electric when we finished the raid for the first time. Everyone’s cheers, pats on the back, and laughs made all of the many, many wipes worth it. Player Progression This raid will be the next step in furthering progression and overall equipment power. From the original main story quest to Brimstone Sands, Elysian Wilds, and now the revamped Cutlass Keys zone, we’ve continued to create content bands for players to explore as phases of their experience on Aeternum. Banding content into Gear Score ranges requires us to carefully consider the accessibility of powerful equipment within each band. While the current strongest gear will no longer be at the top when the Hive of Gorgons releases, they’re by no means less powerful against any of the existing content. We try to avoid changing endgame loot since receiving each piece is an achievement in and of itself. Our philosophy isn’t changing too much, but we plan to keep giving players new heights to achieve in the future. We look forward to seeing players react to the Hive of Gorgons when it releases on October 15 alongside New World: Aeternum. Check out our other major updates coming in the Season of Opportunity. Thanks for your support and we’ll see you in Aeternum! View the full article

Step into the shadowy streets of a dark, atmospheric steampunk town, where gears turn and mystery lurks in every corner—hinting at an even darker presence stirring in preparation for what’s to come… Hey Survivors, after careful assessment, we've opted to begin the process of sunsetting a selection of our inactive official servers. On October 15th, we'll be sunsetting these inactive Island servers, click on Show More to see the detailed list.
